SleepVoice

Last updated 26 October 2026

The short version: SleepVoice records and analyzes sound on your device. It has no SleepVoice-operated servers, accounts, advertising, analytics or tracking. The developer does not receive your recordings, journal or Health data. If you enable iCloud Sync, a defined part of your journal is stored in your own iCloud account. Your device’s ordinary iCloud or computer backups may also include SleepVoice data, separately from iCloud Sync. A separate, minimal record protects the included recording allowance from resetting.

On your device

Recordings, clip audio, notes, tags, classifications and the context SleepVoice derives from them are stored and analyzed on your device. Apple Health data is read on this device when needed. SleepVoice does not send Apple Health data or derived Health context to the developer or include them in its iCloud Sync. The local Health context cache is marked for exclusion from device backups, although the system controls backups. iCloud Sync copies only the journal items described below. You can also choose to share a clip using the iOS share sheet.

Microphone

Used only while you record a night, to find and keep the moments that contain sound. You can revoke access at any time in Settings.

Apple Health

If you allow access, SleepVoice can read sleep stages, heart rate, heart rate variability, resting heart rate, respiratory rate, workouts, active energy and step counts from Apple Health, when those data are available and permitted. You can choose Health categories in SleepVoice settings and revoke access in Apple Health. The app reads this information on your device to show context beside sounds and compare patterns; it does not write Health data. Health values and derived Health context are not sent to the developer, included in iCloud Sync, or used for advertising.

iCloud (optional)

If you turn on iCloud Sync, SleepVoice stores these items in your own iCloud account using Apple’s services: night dates and times and their tags; favorite clips, including their audio and related details such as time, duration, category, notes, corrections and waveform; and a small trace for other recognized clips so Insights can count them. A trace contains when the sound happened, its duration, category and classifier evidence. It does not contain audio, notes, waveform or your correction. Nonfavorite audio is not included in SleepVoice’s iCloud Sync. Apple Health data and classifier diagnostics are not included in that sync. The iCloud data is under your Apple Account, not ours; the developer cannot see it.

Turning Sync off stops future syncing but does not delete the iCloud copy. Settings › iCloud Sync has a separate Remove from iCloud action for SleepVoice’s journal backup. Removing that copy does not erase local copies on this or other devices. Deleting a night from one device also does not remove a copy already kept on another device.

Device backups

Separately from SleepVoice’s iCloud Sync, your device may include SleepVoice’s local journal and recordings—including nonfavorite audio—in a whole-device iCloud backup or a backup to a computer. These backups follow your Apple device settings. The local Health context cache is marked for exclusion, but the operating system controls what a backup contains. SleepVoice’s Remove from iCloud action removes its Sync journal backup; it does not remove whole-device backups or the separate free-night allowance record.

Free nights

To help prevent the included recording allowance from resetting after reinstall, SleepVoice stores a random installation identifier and local usage state in this device’s Keychain. When iCloud is available, it also stores an installation-scoped allowance record in Apple’s iCloud key-value storage under your Apple Account. That cloud record contains opaque IDs for nights already counted and allowance state; it has no audio, recording dates, clip labels or Health values. This is separate from optional iCloud Sync and is held by Apple, not by the developer. The local Keychain record may remain after the app is removed.

Sharing

You can choose Share to send a clip to a destination in the iOS share sheet. Favorite audio is also copied to your iCloud if you enable iCloud Sync. Device backups may include other recordings as described above.

Purchases and notifications

Purchases are handled by Apple through the App Store; we receive no payment details. Notifications, such as a quiet morning message, are scheduled on your device.

What isn’t in the app

Deleting your data

Manual deletions can be restored from Recently Deleted until you permanently delete them. Smart Library is optional: if you enable a rule, it permanently deletes eligible, nonfavorite audio after the retention period you choose. When recognized audio is permanently deleted, SleepVoice may keep a small clip trace—when it happened, duration, category and classifier evidence—so Insights still counts that sound. The trace contains no audio. You can clear these traces in Settings › Storage, or erase everything in Settings. A sound marked “Not a real sound” leaves no trace.

Deleting the app removes its local library. A small Keychain record for the included recording allowance may remain on this device, and the allowance record in Apple’s iCloud key-value storage is separate from the journal backup. Remove the journal backup from Settings › iCloud Sync; copies already stored on other devices and in whole-device backups remain there. Manage whole-device backups in your Apple device settings.

Children

SleepVoice is not directed at children under 13.

Apple’s own reporting

If you have chosen to share analytics or crash data with app developers in iOS settings, Apple may provide reports or diagnostics under the choices you make in iOS settings. SleepVoice does not intentionally include recordings or Health data in its diagnostic messages.
